The YMCA offers a unique avenue into the arts - children, teens and adults can stretch their creativity and imaginations as part of building a healthy spirit, mind and body.
Pre-School through Kindergarten [+/-]
Exposure young children to the arts has immeasurable benefits and the North Suburban offers a wide variety of daytime art classes to participate in.
Artists Wanted (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Explore art using watercolors, acrylics, chalks, oil pasels, paper mache and clay.
Construction Zone (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Build a bank from paper mache, a fort out of paper towel tubes and action figures out of clay and more!
Messing with the Masters (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Children create their own art works using the same techniques as famous artist.
I Can Draw (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Boost your child’s self-confidence as they learn the secret behind being a great artist. Kids learn how to create things
like animals and backgrounds, and then how to combine them.
Claymates (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Learn to make slabs, coils and pinch pots. All projects are fired in the kiln.
Clay & Swim (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Learn to make slabs, coils and pinch pots. All projects are fired in the kiln. Swim lessons begin immediately after the clay class (you do not have to be present to transfer your child.)
Multi-Media Art and Swimming (Ages 3 – Kindergarten)
Take your swim lesson before your art class (you do not have to be present to transfer your child). In art class your child will play with lines, shapes, colors, patterns and textures using a variety of techniques and media.
KinderArt & X-Zone (Must be in Kindergarten)
Develop gross motor skills in the X-Zone for the first half hour, then use creative expression in paint, prints, ceramics, plaster and mixed media.
After School Classes [+/-]
Does your child love art? After school art classes are available for grades 1 through 8. Toggle the link above for descriptions.
Adventures in Art (Grades 1 – 5; limited to 3-4 students
per class)
Students gain valuable one-on-one instruction to enhance their artistic ability.
Art Explorers (Grades 1 – 5)
Use drawing, painting, printmaking and a variety of sculptural methods and materials.
Clay & Sculpture (Grades 1 – 5)
Use clay, plaster and other media to develop hand-building skills. Use decorative techniques to create fantastic pots, creatures and other creations.
Drawing 101 (Grades 1 – 5)
Learn to draw faces, figures and landscapes using pencils, charcoals, chalk and other mediums.
Sewing (Ages 9 – 14)
Learn the basics of sewing. Bring your machine to class each
week and bring home finished projects
Jr. High Creamics(Grades 6 – 8)
Learn hand building techniques. Explore decorative techniques, including pattern, texture, glazing and painting
Art Workshop/Clinics[+/-]
Everyone is creative! Come try one of our workshops and let us help you express your creativity and discover whole new worlds of fun.
Adult Ceramics Workshop
Learn basic hand building techniques with an emphasis on design, form and decorating. All projects will be glazed and fired. (Meets on Saturdays)
Ceramic Superbowl Day Clinic
Construct a bowl out of clay, decorate and underglaze it. All pieces will be fired. (Meets on Sunday)
Valentine’s Day Sew a Heart Clinic
We’ll provide the sewing needle, you provide the love. Stitch together a heart to give to your loved one. (Meets on Saturday)
